The British police are treating a blaze in Leicester that killed four members of a Muslim family as a likely murder and have launched an investigation into the incident.

The fire broke out at the house of consultant pediatrician Muhammad Taufiq Al Sattar on Friday morning and led to the deaths of his wife Shehnila Taufiq and their three children aged 15, 17 and 19.

The police are treating the blaze as a likely revenge arson attack on the family of Sattar who is well-known in the Muslim community.

The force says the blaze could also be connected with an assault on a man less than one kilometer away several hours earlier that left the victim dead.

A man and two women, all 19, have been nabbed over the assault.

“I can’t confirm here and now it is a revenge attack – it may be, it may not be – but lines of inquiry will certainly get to the bottom of that,” Assistant Chief Constable Roger Bannister said, referring to the deadly fire.

Sattar’s family had been living in Ireland until five years ago when they decided to move to England so that their children can get Islamic education.

The family were planning to return to Ireland and open a secondary Islamic school in Blachardstown.
