Glad tidings, O martyrs of Gaza, and woe to us

Alhamdulillāh! Indeed, Gaza is a blessed land within the blessed region of al-Shām and now, in this most blessed month, it is being raised in rank again as Allāh showers His countless blessings upon it.

O people of Gaza, Allāh has taken 100 of you as martyrs in this most blessed month of Ramadān, killed by those who evoked Allāh’s anger! What glad tidings inshā’Allāh.

In this blessed month of Ramadān, where we read the Qur’ān by day and hear its recitation in our masājid by night. Let us reflect on the āyah in Sūrah Āli-‘Imrān:

And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allāh as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision, rejoicing in what Allāh has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them; that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. They receive good tidings of favour from Allāh and bounty and [of the fact] that Allāh does not allow the reward of Believers to be lost. [1]

SubhānAllāh we only recite and hear these verses, yet, O people of Gaza, you are living andwitnessing this revelation everyday. Allāhu Akbar!  How great a bounty Allāh has blessed you with, in this the best of months.

O people of Gaza I am ashamed that much of this blessed Ummah, the Ummah of Muhammad sallAllāhu alayhi wa sallam are silent, oblivious, heedless of your affairs. We see the pictures on our TVs, feel the sorrow for a few fleeting minutes and shed a few tears. Yet in a flash, we return back to our mundane, everyday lives as if nothing has happened; watching and discussing football on our social networks; enjoying feasts at iftār and suhūr; preparing gifts and celebrations for ‘Īd. These are but a few of the things our world deceives us with.

The love of the dunya has settled in our hearts and we don’t have the character or zeal in them to rise against the enemies of Allāh, who are oppressing our dearest brothers and sisters. This is a heedless state that we have brought upon ourselves by indulging in the desires and distractions of this dunya. If the Ummah is in such a state, what then of our leaders? They are merely a reflection of ourselves, influenced by just worldly gain, so don’t rely on them O people of Gaza!

O my dear brothers of Gaza keep on striving forth, verily this dunya is too short. Only yesterday we buried an uncle here in the UK, while you were burying the shuhadā. The same end but yet so different! If you were to ask the dying in the UK which death they would prefer, they would certainly long for the death of your martyrs over their deaths in hospital beds.

O my dear sisters in Gaza be patient and raise your children to be true leaders. Verily your husbands, fathers and brothers are dying in the best possible way for the best possible cause, not only shahīd, but while oppressed by the enemies of the Almighty, and in the best of months. Who are we to tell you not to despair and to be patient? You are examples for the whole world in this, reminding us of Allāh’s command to give you glad tidings, in Sūrah al-Baqarah:

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, who—when disaster strikes them—say, “Indeed we belong to Allāh , and indeed to Him we will return.” Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided. [2]

Continue in the remembrance of Allāh and only turn to Him for help, and by Allāh, you too, my dear sisters, will be from the blessed and returned to your beloved ones.

We ask Allāh to accept all of you and forgive all of us, while we suffer in the rat race of materialism you will be flying in the hearts of green birds.

Woe to myself and others living in the West. Let us wake up and make changes in our lives. Has the oppressed Muslim become just news for us to read and listen to? Is the blood of a Muslim so cheap that we raise an eyebrow for a fleeting moment and then move on? Have our hearts died?

While our lives are so easy and Allāh’s blessings and provisions so great, let us turn back to Him in immense gratitude and read and contemplate on His rich and powerful verses. Let us give from our wealth in charity, let us perform salāh at its appointed times and for the brothers let that be in congregation. Let us hate that which has been made forbidden for us and love that which is recommended for us, and surely Allāh will respond and change the Ummah back to the lofty status it once held.

If Allāh tested us like the Muslims in Gaza only Allāh knows what would happen to us. I ask Allāh to extinguish the love of this of dunya from our hearts and ignite the love of the ākhirah in its place.

I end by requesting we do the following:

  1. Make du’ā sincerely today in the most blessed hours of the week for our brothers and sisters who are oppressed and for Allāh to destroy their oppressors;
  2. To give charity to the Muslims of Gaza, you can donate easily by clicking herebut do it today;
  3. Try and do all that’s in our means, whether it is lobbying MPs [3], calling and writing into mainstream and social media, to increase the public awareness of the plight of the oppressed in Gaza and elsewhere;
  4. Tell another Muslim to do the same inshā’Allāh!

O Allāh forgive us for our many shortcomings!

O Allāh give victory to our brothers and sisters in Gaza like you gave our beloved Prophet victory in Ramadān at al-Badr.

O Allāh destroy the oppressors wherever they are and make examples of them.

We end by sending peace and blessings upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad sallAllāhu alayhi wa sallam.
